Care & Cleaning for your carbon steel CrepePro pan
CrepePro is crafted from professional-grade carbon steel — the material trusted by chefs for its exceptional heat control, durability, and performance. Unlike nonstick coatings, carbon steel develops its own natural patina over time when cared for properly.
Your CrepePro pan is not pre-seasoned, giving you full control to build a clean, chemical-free cooking surface from day one.
How do you clean a carbon steel crepe pan?
To clean a carbon steel crepe pan, wipe it clean after use, rinse with warm water if needed, dry thoroughly, and apply a thin layer of oil to protect the surface and maintain its natural seasoning.
Before First Use
- Wash the pan with warm water and a small amount of mild soap.
- Dry completely with a towel, then place over low heat for 1–2 minutes to remove all moisture.
- Apply a very thin layer of high-smoke-point oil (see oil recommendations below).
- Heat the pan until the oil just begins to smoke, then turn off heat and let cool.
- Wipe away excess oil. Your pan is now ready to use.
This initial seasoning creates the foundation for a naturally nonstick surface that improves with every use.
Best Oil for Seasoning & Maintenance
Because CrepePro is made from carbon steel, proper seasoning is essential. We recommend using a neutral, high-smoke-point oil such as:
- Grapeseed oil (preferred)
- Avocado oil
- Refined sunflower or canola oil
Avoid olive oil or butter for seasoning, as they burn at lower temperatures and can leave residue.
Cleaning After Cooking
Cleaning carbon steel is simple — and should never involve soaking or dishwashers.
- While the pan is still warm, wipe out excess residue with a paper towel.
- If needed, rinse with warm water and gently scrub using a soft brush.
- Do not use abrasive sponges or steel wool.
- Dry immediately and place over low heat to remove moisture.
- Apply a drop of oil and wipe thinly before storing.
Soap should only be used sparingly and never on a well-seasoned surface.
Rust & Patina — What’s Normal
Carbon steel develops a natural patina over time. Dark patina is not only normal — it’s desirable. This is your pan becoming better over time.
If light rust appears:
- Gently scrub the area with a brush and warm water
- Dry completely
- Re-season the pan with a thin layer of oil
With proper care, rust is rare and easily corrected.
